SWOT Analysis

How do you weigh the prospects of a new idea or project? We use a SWOT Analysis document to evaluate potential initiatives. Although not usually considered a Project Management tool, we believe you too will benefit from a quick SWOT analysis before taking on your next big idea.

SWOT Analysis is a strategic planning tool used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats involved in a new project or initiative. The first step, which this template will help you with, is to describe your idea or objective. You then analyze the idea within the following areas.

  • Strengths: attributes of you, your team, or your company that are helpful
  • Weaknesses: attributes that are harmful to achieving the objective
  • Opportunities: external conditions that are helpful to achieving the objective
  • Threats: external conditions which could do damage to the objective

When complete, you will have a clear picture of the benefits, reward, and risks involved with your new project.
